  • Floriani Heat N Sta Fleece
  • Floriani Embroidery Thread
  • Coordinating sewing thread
  • Border embroidery motif or other motif approximately 1 1/2" x 11 1/2"
(Our project uses an embroidered border from the Brother Innovis 4000D.
  • Fast and Easy Placemat

    Instructions
Follow these instructions to make each placemat.

    1. Cut a 14" x 26" rectangle of the main fabric.

    2. Cut a 14" x 14" square of the coordinating print fabric.

    3. Cut a 14" x 19" rectangle of Floriani Heat N Sta Fleece.

    4. Use chalk or a removable marker to draw a line 2" from each short end of the main fabric rectangle. Make a short cross line to indicate the line's center point.

    5. Hoop Floriani Wet N Stick. Moisten the stabilizer and attach one end of the fabric with the placement lines centered. Embroider the motif, rehooping as necessary depending on the design and hoop sizes.

Note: This embroidery design's small filled areas and the placemat's sturdy woven fabric make the project ideal for Wet N Stick stabilizer.

    6. Repeat hooping and embroidery to duplicate the design at the other end of the main fabric rectangle.

    7. When embroidery is complete, clip the jump stitches and remove the excess stabilizer. Press the embroidered fabric from the wrong side on a padded surface.

    8. Press 1/2" to the wrong side on each short end. Turn an additional 3" to the right side on each end and press lightly.

    9. Lay the Floriani Heat N Sta Fleece on the ironing board with the fusible side up. Position the embroidered fabric wrong side down on the fleece, so the fleece is centered between the pressed creases. Open out the pressed ends and fuse the central portion to the fleece.

    10. Fold the creased ends back into place, right sides together. Lay the coordinating fabric square on the main fabric, right sides together, so the square overlaps the pressed 1/2" allowances.

    11. Stitch 1/2" seams across the top and bottom edges through all thicknesses.

    12. Trim the corners and turn the placemat right side out by reaching between the main and coordinating fabrics.

    13. Turn the embroidered ends right side out so the pressed seam allowance covers the coordinating fabric raw edges.

    14. Press the placemat carefully. Stitch close to the pressed edges through all thicknesses.

    15. Topstitch 1/4" from the outer edges to complete the placemat.
